Papers, 1948-1986.

The collection is a combination of various materials from six women of the Fort Wayne area, collected as part of the Black Women in the Midwest Project by Deborah Starks. The women are Starks, Maddy Bruce, C. Maxine Hall, Corrine Brooks, Genois Wilson, and Marjorie Wickliffe. The collection contains news and information about the black community of Fort Wayne, and includes letters, short stories, poems, clippings, church bulletins, awards, and an oral history transcription.

Starks was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She moved to Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1972 and married John Wesley Starks that same year. Starks attended Ball State University and Indiana University--Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Her community activities include Gamma Phi Delta sorority and the Fort Wayne Women's Bureau.
